Meredith and Josh’s Magical Home Wedding

I have a very special wedding to share with you.

The Kaplan family has been long-time clients and friends of ours. We have done many events together, but I was especially happy when they called to say their daughter, Meredith, was getting married and they wanted to do the wedding at their home.

This stylish contemporary Rustic Canyon home in Santa Monica is a modernist’s dream beautifully set in a stunning natural spacious garden designed by the bride’s mother.

I immediately envisioned setting the ceremony in the front courtyard, centered by the sculptural Cork Oak tree. It was the perfect setting to create a floating magic carpet wedding canopy.

This important tree became the inspiration for the decorative motifs for the entire wedding.

Sloane of Sloane Harmony Design created a beautiful tree graphic and cross-cut trunk design with a pair of turquoise love birds as an accent.

To the beautiful guitar music of Brandt Jacobus, two flower girls started the procession. They wore floral wreaths of lavender herb, olive branch and orchid florets carrying birch bark baskets full of petals.

The ring bearers carried custom made moss ring pillows.

The moss pillows had a braided raffia cording detail.

The beautiful kippot were hand crocheted by Maya Works, a Guatemalan Fair Trade business providing opportunities to Mayan women.

The vibrant bridesmaid bouquet was composed of garden roses, Vanda orchids, anemones, delphinium, scabiosa, and blushing bride protea tied with a purple silk cording.

untitled-773

Purple, being the bride’s favorite color, became the dominant accent color. A gorgeous bouquet of jewel-toned purple hydrangeas was surrounded with a dark purple calla lily collar.

This amazing Sola wood flower cuppah was suspended from the tree. It was encircled by a thick band of fresh Vendela roses and lime green hanging Amaranthus.

The Sola wood flowers were commissioned in many unique patterns, featuring Magnolias, Campaca, roses, daisies, and Gardenia shapes all hand made from Sola wood.

untitled-552

The warm and meaningful ceremony was presided over by two Rabbis and a Cantor all friends of the family.

After the ceremony, the bride and groom led the guests into the garden for refreshments.

untitled-316

The charming garden path was lit with mercury glass hurricane candle holders.

untitled-297

The escort card table floral was created with fresh lavender herb, Aonium ‘cyclops’, and fishtail palm fruit spikelets.

untitled-321

Guests were asked to write words of wisdom to the new couple to be read at a later time.

untitled-239

The faux bois pots held collections of Cool Water roses, dusty miller, Echinops thistle, seeded Eucalyptus, and Mokara orchids placed on the cocktail tables.

untitled-735

While guests were enjoying passed hors d’oeuvres, the custom elixir bar and hot pizza from the wood burning ovens, our resident poet, Jacqueline Suskin, created spontaneous poems from the guests inspirations.

untitled-320-2

The bars and buffets had beautiful organic bouquets of Giant Allium, purple leaf plum, spider mums, green mist, chamomile, purple Eucomis, Hydrangeas in shades of purples, variegated tree ivy seeded Eucalyptus, fish tail palm fruit spikelets and teasle thistles. The teasel thistle got its name from the flower heads that were used to tease out the wool before spinning (carding).

untitled-637

Bill Brendle’s  jazz trio’s music, could be enjoyed after the floor to ceiling wall of glass was opened for a free flow from the house to the garden.

untitled-320

Guests were led into the tented dining area under our custom made organic chandeliers, light spheres and garlands of Edison bulbs.

untitled-640

The tables were set with amethyst and lavender vintage water goblets and Italian china from Archive Rentals. The garden style florals of purple mini-callas, Cool Water and Vendela roses, scabiosa pods, lavender herb, Echinops, Italian Pittospurum, ornamental kale and lime green Viburnum formed a floral table runner.  Mercury glass was perched on wood rounds illuminating the tables in a romantic glow.

untitled-630

The couples love of photography gave them the idea to have a vintage Polaroid camera at each table with the new Impossible black and white film.

untitled-271

What is so cool about this film is the frame of the photo is not white, it’s black.

untitled-644

A garland of succulents and Sola wood flowers cascaded off the sweetheart’s table to the floor.

untitled-357

The food stations were a fantastic Santa Maria style BBQ buffet featuring Tri-tip  and Tasmanian Ocean trout with amazing sides and a noodle bar with chefs preparing a variety of noodles-to-order for the guests.

untitled-627

Kimberly, from The Butter End, created this beautiful cake complete with the pair of love birds inspired from the invitation. The cake was placed on a bee’s wax polished teak wood trunk.

untitled-366

The view from outside the tent had a magical glow from the garden.

untitled-193

After the cake was cut, the walls of the kitchen slid open to reveal a dessert fantasy.

untitled-186

Kate of Food Ink Catering, set up a fantastic liquid nitrogen ice cream bar with three chefs cranking out frozen treats.

untitled-101

Next to the ice cream station there was a decadent chocolate dessert bar

untitled-368

Lastly, for the groom, a popcorn bar, his favorite.

Just as the bride and groom were trying to make their honeymoon getaway, there was one last photo session.

Luckily, they had a drive to help them to the hotel.

Such a fun and perfect summer wedding. We are so happy for this family and this terrific couple.
